Cancellation Policies

HouseTrip allows hosts to choose between the following four cancellation policies. These determine how the guest’s payment is distributed in the event of a guest cancellation.
Relaxed
  • Bookings cancelled up to 2 weeks before the start of the stay will receive a full refund (after fees)
  • Bookings cancelled up to 1 week before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund (after fees)
  • Cancellations must be made by 12 midday CET (Central European Time) on the appropriate day
  • If the guest decides to leave early, days not spent at the property will be 50% refunded
Intermediate
  • Bookings cancelled up to 1 month before the start of the stay will receive a full refund (after fees)
  • Bookings cancelled up to 2 weeks before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund (after fees)
  • Cancellations must be made by 12 midday CET (Central European Time) on the appropriate day
  • If the guest decides to leave early, days not spent at the property will be 50% refunded
Moderate
  • Bookings cancelled up to 2 months before the start of the stay will receive a full refund (after fees)
  • Bookings cancelled up to 1 month before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund (after fees)
  • Cancellations must be made by 12 midday CET (Central European Time) on the appropriate day
  • If the guest decides to leave early, days not spent at the property will not be refunded
Strict
  • Bookings cancelled up to 2 months before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund (after fees)
  • Cancellations must be made by 12 midday CET (Central European Time) on the appropriate day
  • If the guest decides to leave early, days not spent at the property will not be refunded

Exceptions to these policies

If the host cancels the booking at any time, the booking payment is fully refunded to the guest (including fees). The host may receive a negative review.

Unforeseen problems at the property

On arrival, the guest is unable or unwilling to stay at the property because:

  • The property is not at the stated address or it simply does not exist
  • The guest cannot gain access to the property because they cannot obtain a key, or the key/keycode does not work
  • The guest considers that the property is Significantly Not As Described

In these and other disputes in which the service provided by the host to the guest may not have been provided satisfactorily, HouseTrip will encourage and facilitate a dialogue between host and guest in order to resolve the dispute. If necessary, HouseTrip reserves the right to mediate and to make the final decision, providing a complaint has been lodged (by either party) within 24 hours of the planned commencement of the stay.

Payment Protection Policies

  • Guest cancellation protection: if guests cancel a booking, their booking payment will be distributed according to whichever HouseTrip cancellation policy the host has chosen
  • Early departure protection: if guests decide to cut short their booking, leaving some nights fully unoccupied, their booking payment will be distributed according to whichever HouseTrip cancellation policy the host has chosen
  • Host cancellation protection: if hosts cancel a booking, the guest will be reimbursed their full booking payment
  • Bankruptcy/double booking protection: if a space is double booked or ceases to trade as a holiday rental, guests will be reimbursed their full booking payment
  • Genuine property protection: if a space is not at the stated address or simply does not exist, or if guests cannot gain access to a property e.g. because the keys don’t work, guests will be reimbursed their full booking payment
