Asturias is often referred to as ‘green Spain’ due to its lush meadows, rivers and mountainous peaks. The variety of bigger cities, such as Oviedo and Gijon, with small surrounding towns like Boal and Mieres, make this an exciting place to take a holiday. The Picos de Europa is a spectacular mountain range not to be missed by walkers, hikers, mountaineers and climbers. The Jardins Botanico in Gijon is a hidden gem and a great place to spend an afternoon in the city and the Plaza del Fontan is great for grabbing a coffee and watching the world go by. If historic buildings are your thing, then Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura is one of the most stunning in the area. The city also has a very strong adventure sporting community. HouseTrip offers numerous Asturias apartments for you to choose from.
When to go to Asturias
Asturias is best avoided during August as it can be very crowded because many of the Spanish take their holidays at this time. Spring and early summer are beautiful, go before this and you may still find snow capping the mountains. The weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared when packing clothes. On the plus side, the showers add to the beautiful vibrancy of the landscape and flora.
