When on holiday in Berlin, be sure to take an emotional walk through the concrete slabs of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, visit Checkpoint Charlie and its museum, explore Museum Island and take in the incredible 360 degree views from TV Tower. Clubbers can’t miss Berghain, the spiritual heartland of techno, but if your clubbing days are behind you try the cabaret of Bar jeder Vernunft instead. If it all gets too much, Tiergarten park is gorgeous and a great place to take some time out. When hunger strikes, join the locals queuing for spicy currywurst at Curry 36, or fill up on falafel from a Turkish kebab house. If you choose self-catering Berlin accommodation, you can also make the most of the food markets in Kreuzberg or Schöneberg, a great way to really experience the Berlin way of life.

When to go to Berlin

The best time to travel to Berlin is summer, when the weather usually hovers around 25°C. Spring and autumn are beautiful, while winter’s Christmas Markets take some of the bite out of the cold.

Getting to and around Berlin

Flights arrive at two Berlin airports, Tegel International Airport and Schönefeld. You can also arrive via night trains from Amsterdam, Vienna, Paris, Budapest and Zurich. Once in Berlin, the public transport system is excellent, with fantastic train, underground, tram and bus services.
