Millions flock to Trafalgar Square each year, to sit watching the world go by and rest their feet after pounding the city streets. The famous Square, dominated by Nelson's Column, is a natural draw for visitors to the West End, being reachable by foot from Soho, Leicester Square and the Houses of Parliament via stately Whitehall - and even continuing on after river boat trips finishing at Embankment. The National Gallery and Portrait Gallery are definitely worth a visit, as is St Martin's-in-the-Fields, the "actor's church", now partially converted into an arts centre. In the evening, walk up towards Covent Garden and further onto Chinatown for an evening meal. On sunny days, simply take a break in your busy itinerary for some people (and pigeon) watching.
