West of here is the famous Castle of Sao Jorge, one of Lisbon's major landmarks. There is a winding route up to the top - definitely worth taking - the views are sensational. Here you can relax in the gardens or stop in one of the restaurants within the castle grounds and on the road up. There are lots of beautiful churches in Lisbon, all making the claim to be the most important. Right in the centre of Madalena is the church that gives the parish its name and it makes a good case for being the most stunning in the city, with its ornate carved facade. In the evening, stroll west where you will find numerous excellent restaurants and bars playing Fado music; the yearning guitar music unique to Lisbon and a reminder of its seafaring history.
