Experience Paris 1 - Louvre like a local
You're not likely to find many Parisians in the long queues that circle the Louvre throughout the year. It can get incredibly busy, so if you want to be sure of seeing the Mona Lisa, it is highly recommended to book ahead with one of the authorised, multilingual tour companies. The Jardin des Tuileries, next to the Louvre, is a popular picnic spot for tourists and locals alike. Then walk along the Seine, either crossing the famous Pont Neuf to Notre Dame, or go west towards the Champs Elysee and the Arc de Triomphe. Do stay by the river to cut round la Place de la Concorde - this busy roundabout is no place for pedestrians. You are in the most exclusive part of Paris here, so stopping for a quick snack can damage your wallet; many people take a packed lunch on their travels. Les Halles is pedestrianised and has some spots to eat as well as shop in, and in the evenings follow the young locals to Samaritaine to find the most popular bars and restaurants.
