Explore Paris 8 – Elysee
Only slightly less famous that the Eiffel Tower, the Arc du Triomphe is one of the major landmarks of Paris. The Champs Elysee (literally "heavenly fields") is the majestic road that leads from there to the Place de la Concorde, with the Arc being the emotional, if not the literal, centre of the city. Touring the Champs Elysee is an essential task for tourists in its own right, even if your budget only stretches to window shopping at the designer boutiques that line it. This is a hub for getting to all of the major sights of Paris; from the Seine to the Bois de Boulogne.
Experience Paris 8 - Elysee like a local
Watching the well-dressed, rich Parisians mingling with the tourists on the Champs Elysee is a fun start, but do what most of the locals do and use the Arc du Triomphe as your landmark to navigate the city. From the Charles De Gaulle-Etoile Metro station you can get all around Paris and walk along the beautiful boulevards that circle out in a star formation from here. You can climb to the top of the arch for the epic view along Avenue De Charles De Gaulle to La Defense, the still controversial modern square arch built as a contemporary "compliment" to Napoleon's monumental classical one. Cafes and restaurants on the Champs Elysee are some of the most expensive in Paris, great if you're on a luxury trip, but if you're watching your outgoings, head to the more cosy neighbourhoods on the backstreets where the prices (but not necessarily the quality) suddenly drops. On Avenue Georges V running directly south to the Seine you will find some top quality cocktail bars within the hotels lining this leafy street.
