This striking holiday home is mere 10 metres from the shores of Lake Maggiore, on Isola Superiore Pescatori (fishermen island). It is an alluring property containing 2 delightful apartments, one on the ground floor and the other on the second floor. They both feature balconies affording lovely panoramic views over the lake. Furnished with attention to detail, they include several examples period furniture.

Isola Superiore Pescatori is one of the Borromee islands on lake Maggiore and is the only permanently inhabited island in the archipelago. 350 metres long and 100 metres wide, it features a small residential area with distinctive style properties comprising several floors (with long balconies designed for drying fish). There is a small piazza, picturesque narrow streets, a lakeside promenade and main street. 150 permanent residents make a living from the fishing and tourist industries. Inhabited for at least 700 years, it has a tree-lined vantage point, and local handicrafts can be purchased at the small market. Several traditional restaurants serve up delicious dishes, based almost entirely on fish. There are small beach areas on both sides of the Island.

Driving is not permitted on the island and cars must be parked in one of the private or free parking areas in Stresa or Baveno. From here there are excellent connections by ferry shuttle or water-taxi. Upon prior request, the kind owner will also organise transfers to and from the island by motor boat, (prices start from 10 Euros).

The house, simple but comfortable, is not only pleasant, but also a good starting point for discovery of the area(through public transport or by renting a boat): the different islands of the lake and its attractions (palace, beautiful gardens) the villas, the riviera, the small villages, the nature, the mountainous regions etc.

L’ISOLA SUPERIORE DEI PESCATORI - It owes its name to the activity of its inhabitants and certainly has the most character dor all the Borromeo islands on Lake Maggiore. It is approximately 300 meters of land in the middle of the lake, spectacularly framed by the Alps.

The fascination of this island lies in the traditional simplicity and rustic candour of its houses. In the narrow alleys you will find restaurants, providing local fish from the lake, bars kiosks and small shops.

The Island is connect to Stresa (3 stops) and Baveno (1 stop) by a regular public boat service available until h. 7.00 pm (www.navlaghi.it) or water-taxi. Upon prior request, the kind owner will also organise transfers to and from the island by motor boat.

the Island is a very good cross road for every kind of excursion: to reach the other islands (Bella and Madre), to visit the beautiful villas and gardens along the coast to get to the top of the mountain, also with a cableway to enjoy a marvellous view over the top of the Mottarone Mountain of 7 lakes (Maggiore, Orta, Mergozzo and 4 Lombard lakes) and the majestic Italian and Swiss Alps. Mottarone is equipped for winter sports. The villages surrounding offer traditional and cultural events as well as musical festival well advertised by the local tourist office.

How to get there:

From Milan - Highway A8 Milano -Laghi, then A26 direction Gravellona Toce - Exit Baveno/Stresa

From Switzerland. S.S. 33 (Brig/Simplon Pass/Domodossola) exit Baveno/Stresa or S.S.32 (Bellinzona/Locarno/Baveno)

Park in Baveno, in one of the public parking area. To get to the island you have two different options:

By public boat of the Navigazione Lago Maggiore your destination is Isola Superiore dei Pescatori (time table available on the internet approx from 8.00 am to 7.00 pm) or by private taxi boat.

The owners of the apartment can give you the telephone number of a shipman. With them you can fix time and place for the pick-up to take you directly in front of the apartment.
