This traditional Portuguese cottage lies on the edge of Marmelete, a peaceful village in the Monchique hills. It’s at the end of a quiet road, with no other houses in front or behind it. This is an unspoilt Portuguese village with few tourists. You can get a good taste of traditional Portuguese village life, and there is a lively and friendly local community.
The house was carefully restored by the owner in 1991. The roof is insulated with cork, and there is a velux rooflight. There’s a kitchen/diner, a double bed (190cm x 140cm)in a room behind with a very small window, and a second bedroom in the front with a double bed(190cm x 130cm) and window.
This south facing house is sheltered from the wind and you can enjoy outdoor living even in the winter – have your breakfast outside in the sun! The views across the village to the south coast are truly spectacular.
Marmelete is a village in the Serra de Monchique, which is a unique nature reserve. From here, the geographical centre of the West Algarve, you can explore by car, bike or foot, far from the pressures and crowds of the tourist resorts. Here you will find beautiful countryside, friendly people, good value traditional Portuguese restaurants, all within walking distance.
By car its only 15-20 minutes to dozens of unspoilt sandy beaches with awesome rock formations, each with its own special, unique beauty. The towns of Lagos,Portimão and Silves are all easy day trips.

Stayed August 2012

Evelyn this house is not fit for any decent people to live in we left after the first week and only stayed that long as we had trouble finding somewhere else as they were all full he claimed there was air condition which turned out to be a fan he had knocked big holes in the walls of the bedroom and bathroom to let air in as there were no windows the electrics looked to be dangerous i could go on and on it should be condemed evelyn

Host response These kind of people should really go to a hotel .They didn’t read the house description properly and didn’t look at the photos. They only looked at the price. You would pay more than this for a room in a boarding house with a toilet in the corridor, yet here you are getting a fully furnished house. Air conditioning was never mentioned. The main bedroom has a window with a very nice view. Its normal to have internal bathrooms with no window and you’d find that in most hotels As described, it’s a "traditional Portuguese cottage".and most Portuguese country people live in houses like this. If they were better informed, they would know that cables on the outside are quite common here, and everything is safe. Presumably these people have never seen a 12 volt halogen system, which is fed by wire cables, and is completely safe. All of the many guests who come have always felt very comfortable and we have many repeat customers.

Instant booking

Instant booking rentals can be booked directly within a few minutes, much like you book a hotel room on the internet. Only our highest quality rentals are chosen to be featured in our instant booking selection.

On request

To book "on request" rentals, you need to send a request to confirm availability with the owner before booking. You will receive the owner's answer to your request directly by email. We advise sending requests to 3 or 4 "on request" rentals that interest you most. As soon as you receive a positive answer, you should book immediately; waiting for other replies increases the chances that available rentals will be booked by someone else.
You can select a distance to search for rentals in the nearby area.

Taxes and Fees

HouseTrip is an online platform for holiday apartments. We do not own or manage the apartments listed on our site. We connect you with owners and managers of holiday apartments around the world, providing you with a safe and easy-to-use platform to book and pay for your stay. HouseTrip enables you to pay for your bookings online using a debit or credit card. This payment is then held securely by an independent third party until 2 days after you have arrived at the property, when it is transferred to the owner. By handling this process, certain taxes and fees are incurred, which are included in this section.

Additional Fees

Sometimes hosts ask for additional fees (refundable security deposits, cleaning charges, etc.) that cannot be paid through HouseTrip. You will need to pay these fees directly to the host when you arrive at the apartment.
