When to go to Sicily
The moderate climate in Sicily makes the island a good place to visit any time of year in terms of weather, though visitors instead may want to consider other factors. For example, in August the Sicilian locals go on holiday, and whilst this means there are plenty of vacant apartments and villas to rent in Sicily, it also means there are hardly any bars, restaurants or shops open. Spring and autumn are the best months because the heat is not so intense and the streets not overcrowding with tourists and although the weather in winter has cooled off a little, there is little rain and days are still warm enough to enjoy a casual walk.
Getting to and around Sicily
Flights to Sicily arrive in Palermo from the west and Catania from the east. Alternatively, you might want to fly to Rome or Naples first and get an internal flight from there. Another option from mainland Italy is the ferry which departs from Villa San Giovanni in Calabria. Once on the island you can explore Sicily by train or bus. Alternatively hire a rental car.
