Accommodation in Amalfi - Travel Guide

When a country is as beautiful as Italy it’s hard for many to pick their favourite Italian town or city, however, the scenic town of Amalfi and the coastline it gives its name to frequently makes it to the top of this list. With dramatic cliffs dropping into a deep blue sea it’s not hard to understand why holiday apartments on the Amalfi Coast are getting booked up quickly, especially if they come with a sea view. However, HouseTrip have some great properties in this beautiful coastal town, which is rich in sunshine, history and stunning architecture.

Experience Amalfi like a local

With origins in the 6th century, Amalfi was originally a sea port welcoming traders in grains, spices and salt. Fast-forward over a millennium to the early 1900s and it had established itself as a popular place for foreigners seeking the benefits of the sun and La Vita Bella. With a medieval cathedral to explore and the striking Chiostro del Paradiso (Cloister of Paradise) to reflect in, Amalfi has centuries of history to offer visitors. It is also home to the interesting Museum of Handmade Paper, a nod to one of the long established trades the region is famous for. Located at the mouth of the river Canneto, Amalfi is built up across many levels of the cliff face and inland along the river’s banks. This means the city is home to many scenic coastal and riverside walks. For the best panorama views of the Amalfi coast stroll along via Santa Maria delle Signore. One place that is worth seeking out on foot and then by boat is the Grotta dello Smeraldo, the Emerald Cove, a partially underwater cave where the sea is a deep green. Food is an important part of Amalfi life and one of the main reasons it is so popular with tourists. With seafood popping up on most menus the most famous regional pasta dish is the clam and shrimp based Scialatielli all’Amalfitana.
