Fregene is a sun-swept town on the Tyrrhenian Coast in the Province of Rome. It is popular with Italians as a quick getaway from Rome, and an upscale alternative to the congested beaches of nearby Ostia. Throughout the summer, actors, football stars and Roman gentry flock to Fregene’s waterfront restaurants and sandy beaches. It is also home to a pine forest and beach clubs offering pools, bars, restaurants, volleyball and surfing opportunities. There are excellent local seafood specialities to be sampled, in particular in the Villagio del Pescatori, the old fishing village on the north side of town.
