“Cozy Moroccan Retreat”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2014

My family and I had a great weekend at Casablanca Cottage from June 27-29, 2014. The house is decorated beautifully; yet maintains the original interior structure of the home giving it a warm vintage …

My wife and I love Morocco so we named both of my houses after that country. (Marrakech Mansion as well) If you are staying in Niagara the Lake you really need to in the Heritage district where you can walk to Queen Street, the Theatres and shops. Both of my homes are a block or less from Queen street. When we renovated both houses we tried to keep the best of the old and add modern conveniences that we all enjoy. The houses are mine; I love them and try to keep them like I do our own home. I am happy that you and your family enjoyed Casablanca Cottage and hope you can return in the future.

Thank you for the vote of confidence in returning to stay in one of my two houses. (I own Marrakech Mansion as well) Both houses are decorated in a fun Moroccan theme with bright colours plus antiques and handicrafts from Morocco. The fact that the houses are located in the Historic district of Niagara on the Lake makes for an easy walk to the shops, theatres and the lake. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again next year.

“Great Cottage!”

The cottage was such a great place to stay. It was very spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. It really felt like a home away from home. The owner's have gone to great length to make sure…

This is my summer home as well, in fact my wife and I stayed for a few days last weekend. We spend a lot of time (as usual) in the garden, removing some plants that had died over the winter and planting new. We to spent some time on the front porch, enjoying a glass of wine after working in the garden. We love the house and I love to hear from others that do. Thank you for your review and I hope to see you again.

Thank you for your review. People come to Niagara on the Lake for the Theatre, the history, the wine and the restaurants. This guest rightly pointed out that staying just a 2 minute walk from many of these attractions really makes a vacation enjoyable. Leave the car in the driveway and walk to the Theatre or the restaurant. The decor in Casablanca is meant to be fun. Bright colours, and souvenirs from our Moroccan travels decorate the house. I am doing a little redecorating right now (Jan. 2014) repainting, changing some pictures and adding a great Turkish Mosaic chandelier over the dining table. (A little bit of Turkey is coming to Casablanca!) Thank you again for your review and I hope to see you again, perhaps in warmer weather.

If you have stayed in Casablanca 7 times you must have lived through the transformation: The side yard from mud-hole to secluded Moroccan garden. The front "non-lawn" from weed patch to lovely grass with watering system (not like you see it when you come in January) The house from dull grey to lively yellow. Thank you for returning every year and I look forward to seeing you next January.

Thank you Kerry I am happy that you found everything you needed. My goal is to provide accommodations where guests can feel at home. I want you to have the tools to cook a meal indoors and I love to BBQ so there is a Weber grill with electric start for cooking outdoors. We love the location as much as you, the horse and buggies going by the house, the shops and restaurants close but not in your face. I hope to see you again soon.

In response to your issues: SHOWER: I did not know about the problem until the day before you were to leave and I was unable to get a new hot water heater until the afternoon of the day you left. It has been replaced. I am sorry about the inconvenience. HEAT: When I arrived a couple of days after you left the thermostat was still set to MAX. That would have the heat somewhere around 30 degrees C or 90 plus F. My gas bill for December was double what I would expect it to be so I assume you were trying to heat the house to temperatures you are used to in Malaysia. People from Northern climates are used to a house around 21 degrees C or just over 70 F. You correctly pointed out that the upstairs does not heat as well as the main floor. This is an old house and the heat does not circulate to the upper floor as well as a new home might. BATHROOM HEATER? I am not sure what you are talking about on this one. There is no bathroom heater. The house is heated by a high efficiency forced air gas furnace new in 2011. BEDS: The two queen beds are less than three years old, the single beds do not get slept in as much and are about 5 years old. I suspect you are used to a different bed system in Malaysia, that does not have a spring based box spring under the mattress. PHONE: I wish you had told me about this issue while you were in the house. I have an ACN phone system that allows free calls to many countries. If I had know about the problem I would have had someone repair it while you were in the house. Thank you for your comments. I appreciate your honesty and I am sure this will help other guests understand what Casablanca cottage has to offer.

“Charming Cottage”

We have been staying at the Casablanca Cottage for 8 years every summer, and it is a lovely, well appointed 3 bedroom gem that is situated within walking distance of NOTL's main street. A gorgeous porch for sitting and having a glass of wine, a private, landscaped back yard where you can enjoy a dinner under the stars and a comfortable den for those times when staying in is your preference. Owner Don George is conscientious and works hard to ensure your stay is enjoyable.
