Description

Just 2 KM from Bir & Billing in Kangra Valley, this is a boutique hotel with a magical twist: an old merchant's house once totally destroyed by fire, it has been painstakingly and aesthetically restored blending traditional style and materials with contemporary sensitivity, offering you an unique living experience in the middle of a Himalaya village without compromising on comfort.

The 4Rooms is intentionally set away from the larger tourist centres in the vicinity so that you can experience, in a responsible manner, our 'un-touristy' village and the pristine surroundings and mingle with the villagers not yet accustomed to tourist manners. Access to other places in the valley is easy (walking, cycling, cabs etc) yet you are not in the middle of it!

In the 4Rooms, you are part of the 4tables Project and our family. The 4tables Project is famous primarily for its contemporary art projects, but also for the delicious, home-cooked contemporary fusion-western cuisine (at the 4tables Cafe & Gallery -- this is where all your meals will be served!), an art museum and since recently, our own camping site, Camp In The Fields.

The 4Rooms offers well-appointed fully ecological boutique rooms with comfortable bathrooms, terraces, a common garden with gazebo, wifi, tea-and-coffee making facility etc. (BUT NO TV or ROOM SERVICE!) to make you feel completely at home. You can book one of our 4 rooms separately, or the whole house.

Owner's reply: Dear Barsha, thank you at least for saying that the place is beautiful and that we have good intentions. The fact that, indeed, I personally do not have as much time as even I would sometimes hope to have, is true. Running a place like this, as well as a full-fledged restaurant (in which, as you know, I cook myself!), and supervising the different activities of the 4tables project are all very time consuming, not to mention being single parent to a 10-year old. We are a small team of 3 people, you have at least praised the other two :)... however, Barsha, firstly, I had time and again informed your husband before you came that the restaurant is 100 mtrs walk away and he had said that was no problem. In fact, we have families that include the elderly as well as children all the time who are happy with the arrangements. Secondly, though I myself do not have as much time as you would have liked to share with me, I did have long conversations with your husband on the first evening and the following day about places to visit etc, explaining in detail the things that could be done around here and even drawing a trekking map at one point, plus arranging for paragliding and so on, and I had also arranged for a good, knowledgable local driver to be with you throughout your stay-- god bless Omkar! Thirdly, I feel we were very accommodating in other regards to your many special wishes like arranging for your pick up from Pathankot railway station, cooking you meals we do not have on our menu, purchasing an extra fan for you, even letting 6 people stay in two rooms which we usually never allow. If despite all this you were not happy, we regret it deeply, but I do fail to totally comprehend what else we could have done. Of course, I know you were annoyed that you had to pay fully for the rooms you had booked, but maybe you can understand that we can not at the last moment offer discounts or refunds after the terms of the rental has been agreed upon. I hope anyway that there will be nice things you will keep in memory about this place, the village and our activities. We are always trying very hard to do justice to our concept and if anything, your critique only makes me want to get even better! So thank you!

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How can I retract my booking request?

You’ll need to contact Frank (the owner) to do this. Send them a message in Manage your holiday booking or through the contact form on this page.

How do I cancel my booking?

Go to Manage your holiday booking to cancel your booking. Here you can view your cancellation policy to see if you’ll be refunded.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Frank (the owner) a message.

If Frank (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
