Escape the bustle of the city and relax at our family Quinta, perfectly located in the countryside of Central Portugal. Our home is set in the serene village of Cernache do Bonjardim and benefits from its own vineyard and a wide variety of fruit trees including kiwis, oranges, lemons, apples, pears, quinces, plums, peaches and the traditional olives. When ready to harvest the orchard is open to all guests and we encourage you to help yourself to any fruit you like. The garden is just under two acres and again is completely open to guests.

Like many traditional Portuguese homes ours is completed by two very friendly dogs, one independent cat and seven cheeky chickens! The chickens lay eggs daily and a selection of these will be provided in your welcome pack, along with refreshments, condiments and a bottle of wine to help you begin your holiday (only for stays of 4 nights or more).

We are delighted to present a self contained apartment attached to the main farmhouse which comprises of an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining room, a separate double bedroom, a large modern bathroom and your own car parking space. There is also a separate entrance to the front of the apartment and access to the terrace from the rear. You will need a hire car in order to get to the apartment and make the most of the sights. There is also a new wood burning stove in the lounge with everything you need for those rare, chilly evenings, and a large terrace you can enjoy in the warm summer evenings or even for breakfast! Towels, bedding and cooking equipment are also provided.

Budding astronomers can also take advantage of the peaceful location and the beautifully clear skies with full use of our telescope to view the stars and planets from the roof terrace. The space station can also be seen regularly.

Cernache itself is a quiet village with a few small shops, lovely cafés and a petrol station. Due to its central location it is very close to the bigger towns and areas for sightseeing, while still maintaining its peace and tranquility. Cernache is very rural and so is surrounded by pine forests and fields, perfect for a shaded dog walk, mountain biking or a nice relaxing hike.

A short drive away is the River Zezere, a beautiful area where you can swim, sunbathe, enjoy a delicious lunch or take part in water sports if you are feeling more adventurous! This area is also dog friendly so you and your best friend can spend the day relaxing and working on your tan.

Getting around

The most convenient way to see everything is to hire a car if you don't bring your own to Portugal. While the train does run from Lisbon to Tomar, it is still a 35minute drive from Tomar to Cernache. There is a bus service from Lisbon to Cernache but again it is more convenient to have your own transport.

Interaction with guest

The apartment is adjacent to our home, so although self-contained we are still on site should guests need us. We are very happy to share any information guests require and recommend local restaurants and/or sightseeing spots.

House rules

Guest access is restricted to the apartment but are permitted free use of the grounds, please respect the working of the farm and be aware at certain times machines will be used in the vineyard and orchard/olive grove.
No noisy parties will be permitted, the quinta is a haven of peace and tranquility.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Wendy (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
