Villa Prana sleeps up to four, with two double bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, and with a huge, romantic four-poster bed. The second bedroom has an incredible arched ceiling, with feature window, and adjoining bathroom.

The open plan living space includes a fully equipped kitchen, drinking water cooler, and opens out onto the shaded courtyard garden, perfect for lazy afternoons with a cup of tea and a great book. The sun terrace offers a private place for sunbathing or sun-downer drinks, overlooking the mountains and the ocean in the distance.

We ask guests to please bring refillable water bottles to help us reduce the plastic waste in Dahab - we provide safe drinking water for free in return! We also ask you to bring your own beach towels so that villa bath towels remain on the property.

We provide a welcome basket of food for our guests, including fresh seasonal fruit, locally baked bread, cheese, milk, eggs, yoghurt, tea and coffee. If you have any allergies or intolerances, please let us know.

Please note that I live next-door and have cats and dogs, who can, and probably will, visit the guest villa to come and say hello. They are all very lovely and friendly and really make the house feel like home. However, it does mean that we can't welcome people with their own pets, and if you have allergies you will need to keep the doors closed.


Dahab is a beautiful, peaceful, authentic bedouin town nestling between the rugged mountains of Sinai and the warm blue waters of the Red Sea. For many years it has attracted travellers looking for an alternative holiday - away from the crowds and the package tourism, away from the bustle of the big city. Here you find sun, sea, sand and miles and miles of wide open spaces.

Dahab is the perfect holiday destination for those looking for adventure, or solitude and stillness, or both. It is one of the top destinations in the world for freediving, scuba diving, wind surfing and kite surfing.

For families it is also a fun and very safe place to holiday with kids of all ages. Everyone loves the sea and the beaches are great for children to play in the sand, and swim and snorkel and learn about our incredible underwater world. Egypt is a totally family-centred community and they all adore kids. For older children the activities are endless - climbing, horse and camel riding, quad biking, and even scuba diving and wind surfing.

Many come also looking to switch off, by practicing yoga and meditation, retreating, fasting and enjoying massage and relaxation therapies by highly qualified European professionals.

The desert also calls many people - vast landscapes where the only sound is your own breathing, exploring breathtaking canyons, trekking for hours or even days without seeing another living soul, and sleeping beneath the stars. The village of St Catherine at the base of Mount Sinai is the home to the world's oldest working Orthodox monastery where coptic monks and the muslim Gebeliyah bedouin live in perfect symbiosis, tending the ancient gardens of olive, almond, and fig trees. From the village treks to Sinai's highest peaks and some of the world's most sacred and holy sites are a modern day pilgrimage.

Dahab is your gateway to all of this and so much more and we are delighted to welcome you and help you make the most out of your stay here, however adventurous or introspective you want your holiday to be.

Villa Prana is located in the centre of Assalah, the bedouin village and heart of our community. Welcome to the real Dahab – bedouin kids playing bare-foot on the streets, goats wandering past your front door, and camels tethered in back gardens. It is a five minute walk from the market place where you will find all you need, including a health food store, fresh fruit and vegetable grocers, supermarkets and pharmacies. Alcohol is also available at the off-licence (most restaurants do not have a licence for alcohol). There is also a supermarket across the road from the villa for basic supplies.

If you want to explore the local food, just around the corner Hamdi makes his infamous Egyptian breakfast (falafel and bean sandwiches) and in the evenings the Basbousa man, with his huge tray on wheels full of Egyptian sticky sweet treats, passes the front door. The promenade, under ten minutes walk away, is lined with restaurants to suit every taste, from Italian, Russian, Egyptian, Indian, and Thai as well as an incredible vegan hangout. There are German bakeries, coffee shops, fresh juice shops, homemade icecream parlours and cafes and many places are open from dawn to late into the night.

And just a few minutes from the villa (either by car or by foot) you can be in the local 'wadis' - the valleys that are the lifeblood of Sinai, scattered with oases where date palms flourish and life can be found thriving against all odds.

Getting around

Everything is in walking distance and it can be fascinating to get lost in the winding sandy streets of Assalah. If you find it too hot to move around on foot, taxis come in the form of pick-up trucks, and it is just 10 Egyptian pounds (20le/£1/€1) to the beach and 40-50le to other parts of town. You can also rent bikes very cheaply and easily close to the promenade.

Interaction with guest

I like to give my guests space, but am available when needed. If for any reason you can't find or reach me either Sandra the house-keeper, or Ali the gardener should be available most hours to help with anything urgent. Phone numbers will be provided for emergency contacts, and a local mobile phone is available for guest use, with useful numbers of contacts, including drivers, taxis, massage therapists etc
