Description

The 400 year old cottage is a great retreat for couples or singles. With its spiral staircase, private garden, log fire lounge with tv, mod con kitchen, shower bathroom and separate toilet, close proximity to shops and restaurants and the old medieval town of DInan. It is an old building and sometimes needs an initial blast of heating or airing (depending on the weather) but is a warm comfy house once set up.

It is on a quiet cobbled road near to shops, restaurants and attractions. The cottage is great for couples but can accommodate up to 2 children or adults on the sofa bed. The house is not baby proofed for toddlers. From here you can explore the Walks along the river Rance, or watch the boats go past as you sit along the river at the local restaurants, or do a bit of shopping. Dinan is a medieval town with cobbled streets and a fascinating history, but has lots of modern shopping areas and out of town shopping centres too. Just outside Dinan further down the Rance, there is Betineuc Lake with beach area, walks, sailing school, cycling tracks. Or if you have children there is an adventure park Colback Park 20 mins drive away.

There are many restaurants and cafes within walking distance (10 min walk) of the house, or you can stay in and sit in front of a log fire and relax.

The house has a kitchen with most mod cons, a utility room with washing machine and toilet. A lounge with log fireplace, sofa bed and family bathroom with bath and attached shower. The toilet is separate on the ground floor. Bedroom with double bed, sofa bed in the lounge. and cupboard and velux window. Enclosed garden with lounge chairs and table. BBq available.

House rules

THe house has a wooden spiral staircase. It is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Small dogs are permitted on request as long as owners clear up after them and dispose of dog waste.please note children use the garden and so no dog waste is allowed in it. Please do not leave dog waste for the house agents. Cleaning up after dogs is not part of their service.
The house can cope with children but. Is not child proofed for toddlers.

“great location”

The house was in a great location and all the shops and cafes and sights of Dinan a short walk away. However not quite what I would call romantic unless you like a curtain separating the bathroom from the lounge. The second bedroom is the lounge so the kids have stay upstairs if you want to stay up. the toilet is on the ground floor.The house smelt damp as we came in. The carpets looked past their best and some parts were not quite clean. It was ok for the money and a good base. Parking was not easy and we had to park in the next street.

“Rustic and Charming”

Perfectly located just outside the city walls, this cottage exuded a rustic charm that we both loved. We enjoyed the quiet relaxing garden, and the from the start the warm welcome from Danny who assisted us with our travel plans. The property is rustic;adorned with regional furniture , wood fires and a spiral staircase which is interesting to navigate. The bedroom is lovely but did get a little warm and could do with a blackout for the window. I did read the previous review re damp smell and yes, to an extent there is on arrival but this is an old property with is unique past. My only constructive advice to the owner would be to de clutter a little. We would stay again as we enjoyed both the town and the haven that the cottage offered.

“Honeymoon Heaven!!”

We stayed here for two weeks on our honeymoon from July to Aug 2013, and it was absolute heaven. The cottage is a wonderful old building that has been carefully and tastefully furnished. Everything is there for guests - all the cooking equipment, bedding and towels, washing machine, garden furniture, board games and puzzles etc etc. It immediately felt like home. The bedroom is in the roof with big breezy windows, the living room with antique furniture is on the middle floor - it's very spacious. The kitchen is on the ground floor, and has an oven with hobs and a fridge-freezer. It was very quiet and tucked away, and has a garden just for the cottage, which is really green and a pretty layout. Cleaners came to clean after the first week, and they had left the cottage in impeccable condition, including a welcome pack. There was lots of info provided about using the house. Another reviewer has mentioned the toilet - it's on the ground floor. We didn't mind it at all (after all it's a 400-yr old house!) and the bathroom (on 1st floor) was amazing - decor and lighting. The cottage is between a set of convenient shops and the town walls, and on a lovely cobbled street. We loved Dinan - both quiet and bustly, and full of lovely restaurants and craft shops. The whole town centre is made up of preserved old buildings - it's really something to see. We didn't end up going on day trips as we were completely content where we were, but there were coaches and trains to the seaside and Rennes if we'd wanted to go! See my reviews on places to eat in Dinan too. We came by plane to Dinard (Ryanair from Stansted) and reserved a taxi ahead of time - it was 30 Euros to Dinan, around 30min drive. Good value journey. All in all a perfect stay and we'd recommend this good-value romantic retreat to anyone!
