Description

8 Rue du Four is a stylish 2 bedroom self catering cottage in Dinan port.

This beautiful 2 bedroomed cottage has been furnished and decorated to a high standard. It is situated on the Lanvallay side of the river Rance a one minute walk over an ancient stone bridge to the lively restaurants in Dinan port.

The house is arranged over 3 floors, on the ground floor an open plan living and dining area leads into a well equipped kitchen. The living/dining area is furnished with 2 large sofas and coffee table with a television and Xbox 360 and dining room table, seating up to 6 people. The kitchen has a glass hob, extractor and fan oven, Tassimo coffee machine, electric kettle, toaster and fridge. The kitchen leads into a utility area with a dishwasher, washing machine, downstairs loo, wash basin and shower.

The back door off the living area leads to a raised terrace, accessed via a spiral staircase, which overlooks the river Rance and Dinan port. It has a table and chairs for alfresco dining.

From the living room a spiral staircase leads up to a large bedroom with a queen sized four poster bed. Also on this level is a large family bathroom with wc, washbasin, towel warmer and a bath with shower and shower screen.

The 2nd bedroom is further up the spiral staircase. It is furnished with a double bed and a single bed.

The Rue du Jerzual and Rue du Petit Fort leads up to the town of Dinan. Despite the steep ascent it is well worth the effort walking up to the town as the cobbled street is one of the most beautiful streets in Dinan, lined with medieval buildings, leading through one of the original city gates into the town.

“Spacious & comfortable property in beautiful location”

This was our eighth visit to this property & to Dinan. We love the town & the surrounding area & the house is ideally placed in proximity to the city centre , port, & all local restaurants & amenities. It is a perfect base from which to discover the area. The house is well furnished , well equipped , very cosy & comfortable. Thank you, we hope to return next year

We spent a week at 8 rue du four and had a brilliant time. Dinan itself is a must see, it is a wonderfully preserved medieval town with layer upon layer of history. It was a border town for Brittany when it was a separate state from the rest of France and as such it has some massive fortifications. Dinan has now become a destination for some holiday shopping with a great mix of boutique and high end shops. We spent at least 2-3 days exploring the town itself. 8 rue du Four is actually in the Port which is if anything even more spectacular than the town. It is bustling with lots of restaurants, places to rent day boats and bikes and your view is always framed by the huge viaduct between Dinan and Lanvallay. We found that we mostly ate in the port each night, the only night to be careful is on Mondays when a few of the restaurants (notably the pizzerias) are closed. Otherwise there are lots of restaurants on offer, French Bistro, pizza and crepes/gallettes dominate, which reflects this area of France. Shellfish are a specialty of the region, so should be tried if available! The holiday cottage is set across 3 floors, the reception room is large, well decorated (we liked the grey and white) and comfortable to watch a movie in the evening, it has a sound system, DVD player and an Xbox 360 with some games if you are really bored and its raining. The cottage also had fast internet, which for us is a must. We cooked about half ; the nights we were there and found that we could easily self cater; the kitchen cooking facilities were good. There was a coffee maker which we got slightly addicted to! The first floor had the master bedroom, which we used as it has a romantic four poster bed and good facilities for putting makeup on / getting ready. The bathroom is spacious and the shower was excellent, very powerful and as hot as you wanted it. We didnt use the upstairs bedroom, but it was spacious and has a double bed and day bed. There was a large balcony outside, which we could have used if it was warmer, but as we were there in October (it was still 15-20 degrees) we decided not to use it. Given the time of year we went, the town was remarkably busy and none of the restaurants were closed. It certainly did not feel like a deserted holiday town. The cottage is only a 2 min walk from the centre of the port (Dinan is a lovely, but uphill 10 min walk) and there is a great bakery on the left after you cross the bridge. Try the local apple pastries, which are very tempting if not very healthy. If you want to do something away from other people, the path by the river runs for miles in both directions and can be walked or cycled. Lanvallay has the nearest supermarket if you are looking to cook with lovely French ingredients whilst you are there, but we found a butcher in town if you want to make something a bit special. Finally, we did drive to the beach one day (about 25 mins drive) which looked lovely but was a bit cold. We would like to go back in summer and do a mixed beach / town / shopping / eating / relaxation trip. Also St Malo is supposed to be lovely and there is a boat which runs up the river daily in summer, but we didnt get a chance to take this. Brittany is also popular as a cycling destination, so we might go back to use the house as a base for some day trips. The cottage was well decorated, very clean and there was a bottle of wine left for us on arrival, pickup of keys was easy and we found the whole experience 100% stress free. Glass of wine in hand 10 mins after parking is a plus. We would highly recommend this as a holiday destination for a couple, a small family or friends.
