Description

Piracy was well known in ancient Greece and fleets of pirate ships represented one of the major concerns for vessels transporting all kind of goods and treasures in the Mediterranean.

Of course, after raids, pirates needed a safe and comfortable place were to hide their booty and relax, enjoying the intoxicant wine, sweet figs, and fragrant olives, which were among the most precious products they had plundered.

This is the reason why we decided to call this property “pirate cove”, a cozy and very comfortable independent house -just 50 meters from the sea- perfectly hidden from indiscreet eyes by two huge and very old pines and greenery. The house is composed by a large living room with two single sofa-beds, a big bedroom with excellent double bed (king size), a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with bath tub. Outside the house, you will enjoy your private garden, particularly pleasant since you can have your meals and aperitifs there, enjoying the breeze of the sea especially in the evening, like real pirates. Besides your private garden, in the same property and just few meters behind the house your kids will have the opportunity to organize real treasure hunts, playing in a very large forest. Are you wondering what the treasure will be? The most juicy and tasty lemons and oranges of the area. In fact, our “secret wood” includes decades of citrus trees. Do not worry about anything, all the property is fenced and the fruits are totally organic as we dislike all kind of chemicals. So, feel free to allow your “small pirates” (or yourselves of course) to collect the fruits and have very refreshing and healthy lemonade and orange juice.

Did you manage to fish something during your “pirate raids”? Wonderful! You can immediately grill your catch on the outside barbecue. If not, no problem, you can buy whatever you need in the near village of Derveni (about 7 Km from the house) and quite often fishermen cross the villages on the coast with small vans, selling the fish of the day. Not only pirates and fisherman, but even bakers are nomads in Stomio. In fact, everyday they will pass with their vehicles horning in front of each house to sell the fragrant bread, as well as cheese and spinach pies and sweets.

If you are feeling a “lazy pirate”, just try the local taverns, eg. “Fagopoti”, only 30 meters from the house. The food is home made, delicious and really cheap.

Last but not least, in case your ‘crew’ should include more than 4 persons, please inquire about the possibility to rent the ground floor flat of a two-story stone house in the same property, just few meters away from your pirate cove. The two bedrooms stone house can comfortably accommodate 4 more persons. Please note that also this property is listed in this website.
