Description from owner

Description

Our cozy log cabin is self contained and secluded in a beautiful forest setting just outside Fairbanks in the Goldstream Valley. Only 12 miles from downtown Fairbanks and the airport.

In the winter and spring you can go dog sledding (which we provide), cross country skiing, winter biking and snow shoeing from your door step. In addition located only 5 miles away is the local ski resort of Moose Mountain.

In the summer there are biking and hiking trails and easy access to Ester dome for panoramic views of the Fairbanks area.

There is great views of the pond and aurora when it is out, that you can see from the comfort of your bed in the winter.

Designed to give you a real Alaskan wilderness experience, the Denali Adventure log cabin was handcrafted by your host using local spruce trees. Wildlife frequent the area, including moose, fox and sandhill cranes. There are several sled-dog kennels located in the area where you will hear their occasional distant howls floating across the tree tops. Every effort has been made to make this accommodation a typical rustic and authentic Alaskan cabin in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Our cabin is a dry cabin which means there is no running water in the cabin, but you are provided with 5 gallon water containers that we refill regularly for you.

The cabin can accommodate up to four people with a queen size bed in the loft, and a queen size fold-down futon downstairs. You will be able to cook yummy dinners in our fully equipped kitchen, while enjoying the warmth of the fire in the wood stove.

There is a separate sauna and shower building 10 feet from the cabin. There is a woodstove that is used to heat up the water and the shed for your shower. In the meantime there is seating in there for you to have a sauna while this is happening.

In keeping with the Alaskan tradition of simplicity and low environmental impact, the toilet is a typical Alaskan outhouse, which is located outside the cabin.

There is a restaurant, store/market, laundry and gas station conveniently located less than one mile down the road. Please note that sometimes in the summer when it rains too much or there is too much snow in the in winter access to the carpark may be restricted, but we will provide you with an alternative place to park to have easy access to the cabin.

From October to April (when the snow conditions allow), Simon also offers 1 hour dog sled rides for our guests at $95 per person. You will meet the dog team, watch how we harness them up and then ride on the sled while we take you on an exhilarating ride through the forested trails. See what our guests have said about our dog sled tours on Tripadvisor. Type in "Alaskiwi Adventures".

Once a gold rush boomtown, Fairbanks is now Alaska’s second largest city after Anchorage. In the summer, the sun shines for nearly 24 hours a day giving you lots of time to do the many activities such as panning for gold, floating the Chena River, mingling with reindeer and musk oxen, cooling off in an ice museum, or taking a refreshing hike, or be inspired by local art galleries, museums, and historic sites.

Late August to April you have a great chance to see the shimmering light of the aurora borealis. In the winter there are host of activities such as dog mushing, snow mobile trips and skiing, as well as soaking in hot pools of Chena Hot Springs.
