Description

The Old Post Office lies in the heart of Glenelg, opposite the village store and a minutes walk from the Glenelg Inn. Built in 1723 to house the English Captains stationed at nearby Bernera barracks following the Jacobite uprisings, this historic cottage provides the perfect base for walking, cycling, bird watching and sightseeing,

A gentle stroll down the single-tracked lane takes you down along the sea front to a quiet pebbled beach with crystal clear water and breath taking views over to Skye. A perfect spot for a bracing swim or a beach bar-b-que.

A short bike ride inland brings you to two Pictish Brochs and further along the coast a leisurely walk through woodland brings you to Sandaig, former home to author Gavin Maxwell who wrote "Ring of Bright Waters" For serious walkers, climb the Five sisters of Kintail or explore the peaks of Skye, crossing on the seasonal ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea. And at the end of the day, retire to the Glenelg Inn for a drink and a meal or listen to local musicians who often play there.

Directions and entry information are provided at the time of booking so guests can arrive at anytime after the entry time of 3pm without needing to arrange a specific time to meet to pick up keys etc. We take a hands-off approach and allow guests to get on and enjoy their stay but if guests need help or advice we are on hand to help as required. “Away from it all location”

Remote outpost on Scottish West Coast. Lovely location for getting away from it all (sketchy mobile phone signal :) ) Locals all very friendly, pub, shop, cafe and ferry, including the sheep walking up the village every afternoon. Cottage has rustic charm, lovely woodburner.

“Lovely cottage”

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of April 2019 and we had absolutely amazing weather . The cottage was clean and tidy and once got the fire going it was lovely and warm . Carpets need updating as stained but that didn’t effect our holiday . A larger tv would be a bonus too . Will definitely return . Very scenic area and pub just a couple minutes walk away a plus and very friendly and welcoming!!! . Shopkeeper man opposite cottage very aggressive and not friendly but co- op in Kyle of Lochalsh has everything you need plus lovely drive . Very nice village and beach .

This was a last minute booking due to a cancellation for another property. We were so lucky to find somewhere 1 week before our holiday was due to start. We were not disappointed the cottage was cosy and we had everything we could possibly need and the view from the decking was wonderful, a view of skye over the water. We watched the boats come and go. Listened to the birds and enjoyed the tranquility. Handy shop across the way and the pub not even 5 mins away staff ,food, drink amazing. We defo like to visit again.

Great cottage in a beautiful and tranquil location. We saw seals, red deer and buzzards. Went for walks in the mountains, visited Skye and enjoyed the great local pub and cafe. Lucy the owner couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you!

Lovely cottage with fabulous views. Very comfortable beds and nice to have a real fire! Everyone we met was very friendly and we enjoyed exploring this beautiful part of Scotland.

Stunning location with views from the back of the cottage across to Skye. Village shop across the road and pub almost next door. Beautiful scenic walks in every direction. Visiting Glenelg for the fifth time was as impressive as the first and it doesn't matter what the time of year is. Cottage is very well equipped and very cosy.

I was very pleased the cottage, its in a beautiful location and it feels like you have gone back in time. The cottage is comfortable with everything you could want, the owners have gone out of their way to make sure you are comfy there. I recommend the beach for having a paddle, the kids loved it, they also loved being able to play out with no worries. The sheep will wake you early if you leave the window open as will the midgies but that's part and parcel of being in the country. The ferry was brilliant and the guys running it were super friendly, they remembered us a few days later after the first time we took it. The only downside I would say is the midgies but that cant be blamed on anyone. Exceptionally friendly village, wish I could live here. The wifi didn't work but that was a minor inconvenience rather than a problem. No mobile signal in the cottage but we got one on the beach and in the larger towns, again, it was an inconvenience not a big problem.

The wifi had been installed only 2 weeks prior to your stay and it has taken us a lengthy 6 months to achieve this - we are aware there are problems with it and BT are working to remedy the problem. Thank you for raising this with us. We normally find we can get a signal for the mobile phone on the decking at the back and the most popular place in the village is at the war memorial down by the beach. Unfortunately it is a problem experienced by many people in the village.

Lovely cottage, very cosy and ideally situated in the village of Glenelg and right beside a great pub. The view at the back is stunning just like the scenery all around. It's a perfect destination for walkers. Would highly recommend.

Why can't I call Lucy (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Lucy (the owner) a message.

If Lucy (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
