Carya Tallaya is a family project with a marvelous architecture, where we have gathered the rustic and the modern to welcome at home with more and better comfort in your returns to your roots and origins and thus be able to benefit form a most deserved rest at an invigorating stay in search of the peace and quietness you long for.

Carya Tallaya provides 4 magnificent houses (three T2 apartments and a T1) so beautiful and seductive as surprising, for the contrast these houses present between the traditional construction techniques of the exterior and the sophisticated contemporary and welcoming of the interiors. They all are fully equipped with a fire place and central heating kitchenette in a self-catering regime, supplied with all the necessary kitchen equipment: refrigerator, microwave, dish washer and glass ceramic stove plaque.

Despite the exteriors of Carya Tallaya being shared by all houses these are independent and this allows for total privacy. The exterior areas cover a vegetable garden, a large lawn with trees and flower beds, a swimming pool and a social area, comprising a porch with a fire place for receptions and for the guests to socialize.

The Carya Tallaya country houses are located in Vale das Éguas which is not only the smallest parish in the Sabugal municipality, its area comprising only 4,03 m2, but also the one with the lowest inhabitants number - only 38 people. It is also the parish with the highest aging index in Portugal, with 90% of the inhabitants over 65 years.

We want you to get to know the smallest and ‘oldest’ but full of tenderness parish of Ribacôa – municipality of Sabugal and Portugal.

We intend to provide to those who come to us a return to the origins, a very close contact with the past with the immense and powerful historical patrimony which ranges from the final Bronze Age passing through the roman and medieval periods up to our days.

This may be your opportunity to get to know the Five Castles Route of the Sabugal municipality, the Malcata Mountain Range Natural Reserve and the chance to visit some of the marvelous Historical Villages of the region (Sortelha, Castelo Mendo, Almeida, Belmonte and Castelo Rodrigo).

To finish your journey we have the ideal suggestion for a most deserved relax: the state of the art Cró Thermal Facilities where you may recover your strength at Cró Ludic, enjoy a fantastic experience at Cró Classic or offer your body a luxury treatment at Cró Corpus.

The programs and activities at the Carya Tallaya houses are of a much diversified offer.

Should you prefer to rest, you may choose to stay within the small complex enjoying the warmth of a fire place if the weather is cold or, when the days are hot, profit from a refreshing swim in the original swimming pool, located in the rustic garden.

Should you like walking, the isolated and quiet village allows for unique experiences with all that can be appreciated with the utmost tranquility.

Adventure yourself through various paths to appreciate the natural and historical patrimony within the surroundings (Côa River and its margins, small woods and forests, observation of local fauna and flora, ruins of water mills, imposing castles and magnanimous medieval bridges).

For the young and the daring adult donkey, horse or pony walks may be provided.

For those with more specific or radical tastes there is also the possibility of renting canoes at the Côa River, at the fluvial beach, the possibility of fishing, bike riding and more radical activities at ParKôa (radical sports park) there so close (Côa source)

Meaning of the Carya Tallaya name and of the logo (dandelion)

The name – Carya Tallaya – with a slight adaptation, was the toponym adopted due to the fact that it appears in several historical documents as a fortified village of extreme relevance in the region from which derived Vale das Éguas, and we intend to pay tribute to history, as this is a ‘reconciliation’ project with our past but valuing the present in celebrating life and existence in an balanced equilibrium with our origins.

The name Carya Tallaya which means Fortified Village leads us to our origins and early populations having associated a sense of strength, protection, security and comfort.

We have adopted the symbol of the dandelion as the logotype of the space as this is a flower that by its characteristics can be simultaneously such a beautiful plant and also a sensitive one, thought cohesive, which makes it one of the most altruistic flowers in nature, as this beautiful flower that sacrifices itself so that its seed may spread, it is capable of losing itself so that its beauty may continue, it has the ability of surrendering in front of the fearful wind so as to offer itself as a legacy to mother nature.

This adopted relationship between name and symbol is a reference to the values and legacy that we want to offer to those that come to us, assuring them support and comfort along with an immense sensibility and charm in all that we have to offer within our walls however always in communion with the surrounding rural ambiance.
