Description

One of the best beach-house locations on Faial: This delightfully romantic getaway at Praia do Almoxarife (5km from Horta) is 150m from the secluded 'Praia dos Ingleses' and 300m from arguably the best beach on Faial, with café/bar and three restaurants within walking distance. It's a traditional Azorean house, once owned by a fisherman, but now restored and refurbished with a nice bathroom, a bedroom area with double bed and open plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen and a lounge with an ocean view overlooking the cliffs where Cory's shearwaters nest. Wake up to the sun rising over the island of São Jorge and streaming through the picture window or relax in the evening on the sheltered private patio behind the house, listening to the shearwaters flying above.The location is rural and by the sea, 300m from the seaside centre of Praia do Almoxarife, where there are three restaurants and café/bars. As its name suggests, the village has a beautiful beach, with showers changing rooms and lifeguards in summer. The 18th century basalt church has a distinctive façade of two towers and there is a traditional Azorean 'Imperio' chapel. The church square, chapel and bandstand are the centre of lively village feasts, brass bands and parades.

Getting around

The bus into town passes in the morning and early afternoon and stops near the cottage. But pick up a rental car at the airport or hire a scooter in Horta town if you want to get the most out of a short visit, or use taxis, which are plentiful, if you prefer not to drive

The sleeping arrangements include one double-bed (for a couple) and a sofa that converts into a bed. The sofa-bed is only suitable for an older child (7 or older) or a teenager or an adult. We do not have a bed for an infant or a young child (5 or younger).

How do damage deposits work?
