Perched on the 4th floor of a listed, historical 1913 walk-up, 5' walk from Istiklal Street, this fully-equipped and tastefully decorated apartment boasting a huge library and rare documentary photography travels you back to Istanbul's 19th century. The library spans East Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa/Central Asia-specific literature, philosophy, travel writing and current affairs. Just renovated and 5' walk from Istiklal, 10' from trendy Cihangir and Galata districts.

Many apartments are located around Taksim but it's rare to get access to an architect-designed one with such a well-stocked library and furnished with custom-built bookcases, Ottoman sedir seating and Middle Eastern and Viennese antique furniture. Rounded off with a modern kitchen and bathroom, this beautiful apartment is decorated with antiques from around the Middle East and Central Asia, and illustrated with documentary photography shot by its owner, a Mediterraneanist who employs print, photography and video to highlight little-known aspects of the region's shared past.

This architect-designed and immaculately-equipped 100m2 flat is part of a network of centrally-located properties in Athens, Beirut, Istanbul and Tunis, dedicated to reminding us of an earlier, kinder period of cosmopolitan coexistence in the Mediterranean.

High-end electrical appliances (washing machine, gas stove, oven grill, electric juicer, fridge), plasma LED TV with international and Turkish channels, laptop hookup, free Internet included.

Getting around

Taxis are hailable from in front of the apartment, the sights of Sultanahmet are a 10' taxi ride away, and nearby metro stops in Şişhane and Taksım deliver you to the malls and offices of Levent or the boats of Karakoy, Kabatas and Besiktas to cross to Asia or visit the Princes' Islands and Asia. Located equidistantly (2' walks) from two major boulevards (Tarlabasi and Dolapdere), allowing you to get anywhere in the historical centre within minutes. There is a carpark 50m from the house.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Iason (the owner) a message.

If Iason (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
