Shady Pines in Englewood, Fl. is as large as a park at 1.3 acres. This expansive property is laid out to be of maximum use, reminding you of old Florida and the South of another era. Shady Pines has waterfront views, large sweeping lawns, the mossy pines and palm trees of Florida and a protected caged pool. Shady Pines has a variety of recreations onsite including bikes. boats, kayaks and canoe ( vests and paddles included ), as well as a pier for your own boat and an adult bar over the water.

The property has a pier for your boat (or ours), a playhouse for the children, a number or sitting areas, a wedding platform, a yoga or meditation wharf, the pool and cage and a large indoors able to sleep and sit 8 persons. The parking can handle 4-6 cars with ease. There is a small craft dock and over water bar, which is accessed through a secret mangrove tunnel leading to Ainger Creek and Lemon Bay.


We do not collect a Security Deposit. We apply a small Insurance fee which you will see when you Checkout. This Insurance covers $1000 of non-malicious damages to the home, furniture or any of the equipment.

The BOAT RENTAL is a 12' aluminum boat that has a 2.2 hp gas motor as well as electric motor backup. It also includes oars and safety equipment. There is an instruction video to watch and then a waiver to sign (and insert the codes given in the video) to get the lock code. The fee for the motorized boat and this is available at BoatSetters. We will send you a House/Boat rate which will start at $180 for 2 days and drop to $70/day for a week rental. This is a Bare Boat rental and the guest must check and be satisfied the boat is sea worthy, safe and the systems are operable before departure. We supply the 1. small motor with gas as well as a 2. backup electric system and then 3. oars, as we do not offer retrieval or on the water services. A smartphone is the perfect navigational and safety instrument for you to bring ( we have ziplock baggies) and there is a charge port on the electric battery system. A Boating Licenses is NOT required as the boat/motor outfit size is below requirement minimums.

We do weddings too!! Elopements really, with very small parties. We arrange the ceremony onsite and we have the equipment.

A great place for a retreat from the world for 2 to 8 or more. This location can handle a reunion or small/medium wedding or vow renewal. The home is air conditioned, the pool heated and the cage around the pool makes relaxing outdoors easy.

Shady Pines is kayaking/canoeing or walking distance from Cedar Point Park, a huge preserve and natural habitat of Old Florida.

Some of the picture show Cedar Point, one of the last remaining large tracts of undeveloped land on Lemon Bay in Charlotte

County. With 115 acres pine flatwoods covering over 60 % of the park, Cedar Point also has scrub, scrubby

flatwoods, mangrove swamps, salt marshes, and wetlands. Cedar Point is within kayak and canoe distance or a leisurely 10 minute stroll to Shady Pines. This is a highly fortuitous aspect to our vacation rental.

Many species of animals inhabit pine flatwoods at Cedar Point, including bobcat, grey fox, yellow rat

snake, pileated woodpecker, and bald eagle. The scrub and scrubby flatwoods are very dry areas slightly

higher in elevation than pine flatwoods. Scrub habitats in our area are found near the coast and original

creek waterways, and are in fact the remains of prehistoric dunes. The dominant plants found in scrub are

dwarfed, tangled-looking oak trees (sand live oak, myrtle oak, and Chapman’s oak) rusty lyonia, pawpaw,

gopher apple, with scattered slash pine and saw palmetto.

Mangrove swamps are tidal wetlands that inhabit low energy shorelines in the coastal areas of southwest

Florida. Mangrove trees are specially adapted to salt- and brackish-water environments. The species

found in our area are red mangrove, black mangrove, white mangrove, and buttonwood. Mangroves

provide habitat and nursery grounds for many species of fish and invertebrates. They also provide nesting

site for wading birds including anhinga, black-crowned night heron and the great blue heron.

Salt marshes are tidal wetlands characterized by expanses of grasses, rushes, and sedges. Typical plant

species found in our area include smooth cordgrass, black rush, salt meadow cordgrass, salt grass, and sea

oxeye daisy. Salt marshes are very ecologically productive and serve as nursery grounds for fish, crabs,

and shellfish.

Situated on Lemon Bay, a long narrow estuary, Cedar Point is a great place to see wading birds in the

mangrove fringes, watch for dolphins near the adjacent seagrasses and explore the pine flatwoods to find

Getting around

A car is needed in Englewood, which has no public transportation. However there are destinations which can be walked or biked to, including shopping, banks and supermarkets, as well as Cedar Point, a giant environmental park with trails to watch the turtles and eagles, and one could also bike to the beach at 2 miles in 20-25 minutes without great effort. Other things to note The Park is ideally located hardly 1/4 mile from shopping and services. There is a Publix within walking or biking distance and the Englewood beach is a 2 mile drive by land. Also Stump Pass, where Lemon Bay opens to the Gulf of Mexico, is a 2 mile trip by water. Need to occupy the guests and kids! They can walk to Cedar Point and spend hours on the trails of the park.

House rules

Smoking is outdoors only. There are several patios, in cage and sitting/gathering areas for that. Pets must be non aggressive to any persons or neighbors. The tree house must be used safely. No more than 2-3 persons at a time. Do not allow young children who may have difficulty using the tree house stairs or be a danger at the higher decking; an access door is provided. An adult capable of giving safety instructions, making safety judgements and rescue aid must be present during use of the pool.
