Description

It's almost unbelievable. The river is about a five minute walk out your door. Kayaks in the garage. Two doubles and four singles. Side by sides, take you to the Wind Caves, Chicken Corner, and the Amasa Back. There are unlimited hikes from the property and many more near by. There’s a beach most of the year and a highly ranked disc golf course.

There is so much wildlife it's hard to keep track of. In addition to the hundred or so birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that come to eat each day, there's the man himself, Kobae. Kobae is the 180 pound security tortoise that lives here and when he's not hanging out on the Base Camp porch next door, or chowing down on romaine, he'll be looking for someone to go hiking with. With evening the Base Camp front porch comes alive. Ringtail, skunk, fox, and raccoon all eat nightly either on or just off the front porch. You're welcome to hang out at the fire pit or watching the stars but many a guest has spent their evening feeding all the critters that come to the porch. For kids especially it's an incredible experience.

The night sky, the incredible view, the critters, the side by sides, the beach, the river, kayaking, Wind Caves, hiking, climbing.......it's all here. Nobody else has what Base Camp and Last Hurrah have or even come close. Worry about other parts of your trip but don’t worry about this part. I live here pretty much 24/7/365 and I’ve been sharing it with guests for ten years. You want an adventure, not just staying somewhere, you’ve found it.

Now, having said all that, it’s quiet, off the grid, and you want to get away, that’s here too. Some folks just sit on the porch and unwind, enjoying the landscape, watching the rafts and kayaks come down the river or finding a spot around the property to just sit and read. There’s no shortage of those. I’ve spent many a morning hiking out to a different place each day and reading.

Whatever you want to do, all you have to do is walk outside your door. That’s special.

There are so many things to do. If you want me to go with you, and if I can, I will. In most cases though I will give you a hand drawn map (all the professional ones are wrong) and a walkie talkie. If you have an issue out there somewhere or need direction you can call. It doesn't work everywhere but it works most places.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Tom (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
