Description from owner

Description

Far from the Madding Crowds, l’Escarelle…

is your home for a few days, perched at the end of a river valley in the middle of nowhere, facing the Vercors. A truly original two-story farm house built in the late 19th century, l’Escarelle has been carefully renovated to ensure maximal comfort. There’s enough room for two families or three to four couples. In the summer its location (450m in altitude) and the ancient, thick walls keep it cool, and the small mountain river close by provides nice bathing places (should you prefer tiled and chlorinated water there’s a public pool in Vif, the closest town). In the winter the powerful wood stove and fuel central heating keep the place warm.

The immediate surroundings —3,000 sqm of private property— offer a safe, diverse and beautiful playground for children. There are plenty of forest paths around, if you are not afraid to disturb the few deer that roam the woods. The nearest village —baker shop, pharmacy, tobacconist, two restaurants and cafés— is 4km down the road. Supermarket, 9km drive.

In the snow season the closest ski station, Col de l’Arzelier, a family-type, very small resort with incredibly low prices, is only 15’ away. Gresse-en-Vercors, a more ambitious place facing the Mont-Aiguille, providing cross-country skiing, well-kept downhill ski tracks and paragliding, 30’ only. L’Alpe d’Huez, the largest winter sport complex in the region, 1h20’.

In the water sports season, one of France’s top inland kite-surf and sailing spots, Lac du Monteynard, is only 20’ away.

I live next door, so I can either help you stay put or provide guidance to venture around. I am also a biker and know the best scenic rides around here —there are so many you wouldn’t believe.

You are most welcome!

“Belle maison, accueillante et pleine de charme !”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2016
