Description from owner

"Borgo Borghese" guest house is located in Sant 'Alessio Siculo in the beautiful Val d' Agro just 10 km from Taormina. We are in the countryside at 600 m from the sea. Inside the property there are two buildings, one is the main house where the owners live and in the other one there are two independent apartments. Each flat has been recently restored and it is composed by a patio with garden table and chairs, a furnished and confortable kitchen, a bathroom with shower, a bedroom with a doublebed and a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed. Each flat is suitable for 2/4 persons . Close to the appartment there is a path six km long that reach the beach from one side and the valley from the other side.
The sounds, smells and colors of the Sicilian countryside come to life here and it's easy to break out of chaos and stressful everyday life. The mild climate and the nearby cultural attractions make “ Borgo Borghese” a pleasant place where to spend your holiday.
Here you can discover the pleasure of spending long evenings sipping a glass of local wine enjoying the sing of crickets and cicadas, and at the same time the refreshing sea breeze.
The guests could taste the fresh and seasonal products from the owner's garden .
Ideal location for families or couples. Renting both apartments is perfect for groups of 8 persons.

Very Good

“A Pearl in the hills over the Ionian Sea (Sicily)”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2013

We spent 2 weeks at this delightful specialty guest house in the hills above the beautiful Ionian Sea. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family by Debora and Salvo and their beautiful daughter, Irene. GPS will get you to the corner nearest the house, but the GPS said turn left where no left was possible, so we continued a bit and wound up at a gas station just down the road. We called Debora on her cell phone and Salvo came in a few minutes and showed us how to get to the house. We were greeted with smiling faces and immediately shown around the property. There are two nicely renovated apartments; “Luna” and “Sol”. A third apartment is under construction. We got “Luna”. When we entered the apartment, there was a delightful assortment of homemade and home grown things for us on the kitchen table. Wine made by Salvo, Peppers, Tomatoes and Eggplant grown by Salvo and some fresh eggs laid by Salvo's chickens. The apartment was beautiful, clean, quiet and functional. It has a nice kitchenette with stove and cooktop, fridge and freezer and all the necessary pots, pans, dishes, etc. Salvo took us for a tour of the outside including the amazing garden. We picked figs off the trees and ate them still warm from the Sun. What a treat! Debora speaks English quite well. Salvo does pretty good too. Both of them are happy to help plan an itinerary for you and provide directions and recommendations when asked. Debora even made us dinner one night. On the menu was Eggplant Parmesan. Delicious, thanks Debora! Another night, Salvo knocked on the door and offered a taste of the Lemon Liquor he made. The house is located about 10km north of Taormina. This puts you within a stone’s throw of the A18 Autostrada which takes you all along the Southeast shore from Messina to Catania. There is plenty of local shopping for food and other necessities. In the neighboring towns, there are many quaint restaurants and Bars. Some are better than others, of course. Don't miss the town of Savoca where scenes from Godfather I were shot. We had dinner there at Bar Vitelo. Quite a treat. We took excursions each day. We visited Mt Etna and Stromboli Island which are both active volcanos. Etna requires driving part way up the mountain then a cable car ride up some more and finally a Giant Jeep ride to the top. You get to rent a down coat before the final ascent because it is COLD up there. Stromboli was part of a Mini Cruise to the Aeolian Islands This volcano has eruptions several times an hour. The cruise boat lingers after sunset so you can see the fire shooting out the top. There is so much to see. There are Ruins, Churches, Museums, Gardens to fill your days and plenty of nice places to eat lunch and dinner. This is a delightful destination. Making Borgo Borghese your home base while you are here is a great way to top it all off. Sicily is deceivingly large with lots to do. Plan to spend some time with Debora and Salvo. You won’t regret it.

Beautiful place. Debra and Salvo and their lovely daughter made this place a home. We enjoyed their company and the hospitality. Got to the house and found homemade wine from Salvo and the best cannoli we have ever had waiting for us. They were very helpful in finding places in Sicily. This home is in the middle to lemon groves with a terrace at the side and is just the best place to come home to after a long day of sightseeing. Sicily is a must for anyone going to Italy as it is indescribably beautiful. Stay with Debra and Salvo for a memorable vacation.

“Great Local Atmosphere!”

Reviewed 8 May 2013

If you are looking for a place with a relaxing local atmosphere, kind helpful and generous hosts, - this is the place to go! Located short distance to numerous wonderful sights you find this tranquil guesthouse run by the kindest Sicilian family. We stayed here for 2 weeks and it was hard to leave as we felt quite at home without the hardest of our usual family duties. Traveling with twins under 2 years of age is not easy, but the decision to visit this place clearly was worth the trouble. Our hosts always had time to assist us, and the facilities were perfect as a safe and soothing base to explore the beautiful surroundings from. You can borrow bicycles to take a ride in the hills, where you will find interesting sights relatively close by. We also rented a car and as the possibilities here are endless, we had no problems visiting the many wonderful sights within short distance. We truly recommend to vist Borgo Borghese as the kind family of the house provided us with not only great accommodation but also a unusually friendly and generous presence.

“Home away from home!”

Staying with Debora, Salvo and their daughter was like staying with family. We were very kindly welcomed and looked after during our stay. They went out of their way to suggest activities and experiences yet allowed us our privacy and were never intrusive. They graciously share their vegetable garden, oranges, lemons, wine, oil and hospitality. The apartment is well decorated and supplied. The beds are good and the bathroom is modern and roomy. The location is perfect for a truly authentic experience allowing for cultural interaction without the buzz of tourist busses everywhere. Great outdoor living areas and easily accessible to roads leading to everywhere. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet and culturally rich experience you could find no better than staying with this lovely family.

“Truly excellent!”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2013

You won't be disappointed with this lovely apartment. It is quiet, and clean with everything you need, and with a cute little garden with a hammock in to catch the sun. However the best part of renting this accommodation are the owners, Debora and Salvo! Nothing is too much trouble for them..they are so friendly and helpful...always happy to chat, as well as giving us fabulous tastes of their self-sustained life in sicily....homemade wine (delicious!!), oil, eggs from their own hens!! And they were thrilled to involve our 5 year old son in their day...collecting eggs in the morning or watering the vegetables in the evening....our son loved it! The apartment is located in a great part of Sicily and as long as you have a car, nothing is too far away. We will definitely be returning to stay was excellent value for money for June, when the weather was warm and sunny but not too unbearable. The place might be a bit tricky to find if you arrive late at night like we did...but one phone call and salvo came out to find us...that's just the kind of people they are !

“Cosy and friendly”

The first impression of the location and the village of Sant 'Alessio Siculus is not what we looked for, but the Moon apartment, and most and for all the hospitality of Debora and Salvo (the owners) made our stay (7 nights) a pleasure. Also the free use of their bikes and the vegetables and wine they provided, is worth mentioning. Please be aware that you are sharing the premises with the owner's family and the other apartment. The apartment is well equipment and comfortable.
