Escape, unwind and relax in a private cottage on the stunning Lake Temagami only 60 minutes north of North Bay! Whether you want to enjoy world class fishing, hike through beautiful old growth forest or just relax and unplug Great Spirit Lodge offers it all. Stay in one of our modern, spacious, and clean cottages that are fully serviced and equipped for a hassle free vacation. Take advantage of our packages for a truly seamless getaway experience!
Cottages all provide amazing Lake Temagami waterfront views from the privacy of your own deck. All necessary cookware, utensils and flatware are provided as well as paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, towels, and clean bedding and linens. Cottages are all equipped with full sized electric appliances and small appliances such as microwave, coffee maker and kettle are also supplied. The cottages come standard with six single beds. We can offer up to two optional king sized beds per cottage. This is at no extra charge. Please arrange your choice of beds at the time of booking. Full bathrooms with a bathtub/shower, toilet and sink. Your cottage will also include satellite and a flatscreen tv with built in DVD player as well as comfortable couches for those rainy and lazy days! DVD’s and games can be borrowed from the lodge shop. Wifi can be accessed from specific locations on the property in case you need to stay connected and a phone is available for any necessary communications. Transportation to and from lodge included with your stay, any extra taxi services can be arranged for an additional fee.
The property also boasts docking for two boats for each cottage rental. A fish cleaning hut with lighting and running water is available for guest use. A fire pit, firewood and seating are all available to exchange stories and maybe snack on a s'more or a hot dog, you can set yourself up around the fire for a delicious shore lunch-just check in with your hosts in case a fire ban is in place. A wood fired sauna is available for use free of charge, ask your hosts to fire it up, or get a fire started up if you feel comfortable doing so.
Lake Temagami is known for its deep crystal clear waters-in fact “Temagami” means deep water by shore in Ojibway. The clear water and abundant rock structures make it a haven for a variety of fish species including lake trout, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and whitefish! The clear water is also great for a nice dip on those hot summer days when you just need to refresh. Additionally the lake is a great jumping off point to access other backcountry lakes and ‘hidden gems’ that provide opportunities to catch Brook and Rainbow trout as well as some healthy Walleye lakes.
Great Spirit Lodge is happy to offer boat and canoe rentals for those who do not have their own boat or don’t want to deal with the hassle of transporting a boat. Three different types of motorized boats are available to rent to suit the needs of most guests whether it be fishing or boating on a scenic tour. Canoes are also available for those looking for a peaceful and self propelled method of travel. Temagami is internationally known for its canoe routes and many people swear the best way to get acquainted with the area is from the seat of a canoe. Different styles of canoes are available for different experience levels!
Lake Temagami also provides other opportunities for the avid adventurer including absolutely awe inspiring old growth forests with massive red and white pine trees-some of the largest in Ontario! Hiking trails are plentiful and well maintained and a large number of these hiking trails are very short paddle or boat ride from Great Spirit Lodge-on Temagami Island. We are happy to provide you with maps of the hiking trails, or even go along as a tour guide with you.
Lake Temagami is a beautiful and wondrous place for adventure, exploration and fishing but the town of Temagami also has some gems worth checking out! The historic train station building is home to plenty of art galleries as well as the community market on Saturday morning-stop in at the market for some delicious treats before checking in to your cottage. While you are in town it is worth checking out one of the chip trucks for some delicious poutine (with curd!) or a nice refreshing milk shake. The grocery store has a fantastic bakery if you need to pick a fresh loaf of rye bread, and has plenty of groceries in case you forgot any necessities. If you feel like being active head towards the white bear forest for a hike and climb up the historic fire tower for the best view in the area-you won’t be disappointed!
