Located in the Tucson Mountains, my lovely home invites kindred spirits to enjoy your personal desert oasis retreat - ponds, privacy, and desert vegetation. I bought the house from the author Barbara Kingsolver who wrote her first books here - and I also wrote my book (Stop Eating Your Heart Out) here! You’ll love your private wing in my house because of the location, the friendly atmosphere, & the spaciousness of the living and outdoor areas. Great for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. And it's only a 10-minute drive into town.

THE SPACE: "A wonderfully charming place in a peaceful southwest storybook setting with a gracious host!" ~Joanne.

Private room and bathroom and almost exclusive use of the house - full kitchen (with coffee and tea provided, note - no microwave), large great room, outdoor seating, ponds, ambiance. Serenity amidst desert beauty. I live here in a separate area plus a 9 year old Blue Healer mix doggie and a formerly feral cat, Mr. Mo. Please inquire if you want to bring your well-trained small dog.

In addition to the private bedroom and bathroom you will have access to the great room (living room, dining room, and full kitchen), the outdoor seating area, grill, and swing. You are invited to bring a chair down to the pond to meditate and/or take a gentle hike in the nearby wash (arroyo). Kitchen is supplied with coffee maker and coffee, electric tea pot and a huge variety of teas, and many spices plus sea salt (no microwave).

"The home is beautiful and spacious with great outdoor living area. The bed was comfortable. Meryl was so welcoming and generous. We used the kitchen as we wished and also produce from her garden. The desert surrounding the home was gorgeous. Also, easy access to downtown and all of the surrounding areas we wished to visit.

"Meryl's place is great! Super clean and spacious, and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, including tea, coffee, and fresh fruit. The location is quiet with beautiful landscape views. A perfect relaxing stay! ~Javier

House rules

I have an elderly dog. Inquire in advance if you are bringing a pet. Usually a small, well-trained dog will work out fine. My cat, Mr. Mo, will probably stay away.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Meryl (the owner) a message.

If Meryl (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
