The Area

View Maison in Montmartre in a larger map.
This small house is uniquely located in a former sanctuary for nuns. It provides you with all the modern comforts in a unique and serene atmosphere.

The maison's street (rue des Saules exit) brings you directly to the heart of Montmartre as you pass by Lapin Agile Bar-Cabaret, a subject of one of Picasso's most famous paintings, and the unique Montmartre vineyard.

At the street's end, you will be by Sacre Coeur Basilica, the crowning glory at the top of Montmartre. It provides the most spectacular view in all of Paris.

You are spoiled for choice in terms of food shopping, restaurants and cafes around the apartment.

Location

The metro system is the fastest way to travel throughout the city but the buses can be very nice as well if you are not in a rush. The 80 bus has a great route and stops on rue Caulaincourt. This route can take you directly to St Lazare and the Grand Magasins, the Champs Elysee, Ecole Militaire by the Eiffel Tower and more.

Line 12 of the metro brings you directly to Pigalle and the Moulin Rouge, Concorde and its fantastic gardens, St-Germain-des-Pres and its writers, Montparnasse and its artists.

A true Montmartrois, however, uses their feet to go around the districts. This is a perfect way to enjoy the unique architecture of the area: stairs with antique lights, wooden houses, centuries old boutiques and more.

If you need a taxi, there is a taxi stand at the corner of rue des Saules and rue Caulaincourt which is less than a 2 minute walk away.

As mentioned above, this little semi-detached house, is located in an old part of the abbey of Montmartre. When you walk into the complex, you will feel like you have stepped into a small village with the cobbled-stones and tranquility.

This little house is built on two levels so you will really feel like you are living in a cottage.

The complex is rather large and winding but the maison is located very close to the entrance at rue de la Fontaine du But.

When you reach the Maison in Montmartre, you will be charmed by the quaint garden in front of the house and on the side as shown in the photos.

It is very quite and calm in this complex which will make it hard to believe that you are living in the middle of a big city.

When you walk into the maison, you arrive directly in the living area which is open and spacious considering the size of the maison.

The decor was tastefully and simply done by the owner to reflect a feeling of being somewhere else (indeed, you are in Paris).

The living area has a dining table as well as a comfortable sofa and chairs.

If you feel like catching up on what is happening in the world, there is a television with some international news channels.

The open kitchen is located to the right of the door when you walk enter the maison.

The owners have completely renovated this apartment at the end of 2010 with the idea of having visitors in their apartment.

There is a washing machine in the kitchen along with the other amenities mentioned above.

There are plenty of grocery stores in the area (the closest is at the bottom of the street) plus a wonderful fresh market that is open everyday apart from Mondays.

There is also a boulangerie, a pharmacy and a laverie at the bottom of the street.

To get to the bedroom and bathroom, you will take the stairs to the upper level.

Just before going up these stairs, there are a series of closets where you may store your hanging clothes and additional items.

When you get to the top of the stairs, you arrive directly in the bedroom and are welcomed by lovely windows overlooking the courtyard below.

The bed is double sized (140 cm x 200 cm) and newly purchased.

There is a side table with a reading lamp should you wish to lay in bed and curl up with a good book.

At the foot of the bed, there is a chair for you to put your personal belongings on or if you prefer to sit when you read, you may do so as there is a tall lamp next to this chair.

In addition to the storage downstairs, there is also a chest of drawers to store your clothes.

The bathroom is off of this bedroom.

There is a full sized shower which has the charming feature of a little banquette.

The shower is actually somewhat larger than the average one you will find in Paris apartments.

This room also has the toilet, sink and towel warmer which is perfect in the cool months to take the chill off of the bathroom after you come out of a shower.

The cabinet underneath the sink is perfect for storing your toiletries.

In addition, the bathroom also has a window which is great for both light and ventilation.

After visiting the Maison in Montmartre, you may have a hard time staying at a conventional Paris apartment afterward !
